Our story

How This Celebration Began

The Juneteenth Festival Celebration in Hinesville, GA was born from a desire to bring our community together in a meaningful, joyful, and powerful way. It started with a simple question: How can we honor our history while creating space for healing, celebration, and connection today?

As descendants of resilience and visionaries of the future, we recognized that Juneteenth is more than just a date—it’s a legacy. It marks the day in 1865 when news of freedom finally reached the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas. But it also represents the continued fight for justice, equality, and opportunity within the Black community.

With that spirit in mind, we set out to create a festival rooted in togetherness, cultural pride, and community empowerment. Our goal was to celebrate Black excellence while also educating the community about our shared history, traditions, and the path forward. Through music, storytelling, local vendors, and family-friendly activities, we are creating space for joy, reflection, and progress.

Our theme,
“Honoring Our Heritage, Riding Into Our Future,”
reminds us that remembering where we come from gives us the power to shape where we’re going.

This celebration is for everyone—young and old, near and far. And whether you're volunteering, vending, performing, or simply showing up, you are now part of the legacy we’re building together.

Our history

What started as just a few of us coming together to celebrate our history has grown into a community-wide celebration of culture, pride, and progress. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom—over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It stands as a powerful reminder of delayed justice, resilience, and the strength of our ancestors.

We are passionate about this event and the legacy it represents, and we would love to share that passion with you. Through this celebration, we honor our past while uniting our community through education, empowerment, and shared heritage.
